West Deptford Patch — Touch New Jersey will give out about 4,500 boxes of fresh food to Gloucester County residents in need next week as part of an agreement it has reached with county and state leaders.

The food distribution will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 10 at 1101 N. Delaware Street in Paulsboro, officials announced this week. It is expected that the donations can feed more than 2,000 residents, State Senate President Steve Sweeney said.

“There are resources available for any resident struggling with the consequences of COVID-19, and we are working daily to connect them with the help they need,” Sweeney said.

“The coronavirus pandemic has put a strain on many individuals across Gloucester County,” Freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger said. “Thanks to this partnership we can provide Gloucester County residents with healthy, fresh groceries to feed their families.”

Drive-up and walk-up options are available. Residents using the drive-up option are asked to drive to each station, open their trunks and volunteers will place the boxes in the trunk. Residents using the walk-up option should social distance while standing in line. All recipients are asked to wear masks.

“We’re thankful to have partnerships with agencies such as Touch New Jersey who work to assist vulnerable populations across the State,” General Assembly Deputy Speaker John Burzichelli said.

“Although the pandemic has caused uncertainty in the present, we’ve seen people and companies come together in ways we hadn’t before and that is what gives us hope for the future,” Assemblyman Adam Taliaferro said.

“The Division of Human and Disability Services is available to help any vulnerable individual struggling with the impacts of COVID-19. Do not hesitate to reach out to our offices to be connected to resources,” Gloucester County Freeholder Jim Jefferson, liaison to the Division of Human and Disability Services, said.
