South Jersey Times – West Deptford School District has been named a New Jersey Lighthouse District.

The designation acknowledges a school district’s academic improvements in English and mathematics among a diverse student population. The New Jersey Department of Education measured four years of academic data from West Deptford Public Schools to determine the district’s designation.

“West Deptford Township Schools get an A-plus for earning this important educational distinction,” said Assemblyman Adam Taliaferro (D-3rd). “This achievement symbolizes the school district’s commitment to high academic standards and producing students who will be well-prepared for their futures.”

The West Deptford School District was presented with the designation at the New Jersey Department of Education’s first Equity for All Conference at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, along with eight other New Jersey school districts and two charter schools.

“I commend the students, teachers, and staff of West Deptford Public Schools for attaining this honor,” Taliaferro said. “The West Deptford School District proudly represents our entire region on a critical statewide platform. They have proven themselves eager to accept a challenge and exceed expectations.”

The designation qualifies West Deptford School District teachers and administrators to participate in professional enrichment opportunities, as well as diversity and inclusion training with other Lighthouse Districts through July 2021. The New Jersey Department of Education’s Lighthouse District initiative is now in its third year.
