The News of Cumberland County — Assemblywoman Celeste Riley (D-Cumberland/Gloucester/Salem) received the 2012 Distinguished Legislator Award from the New Jersey Food Council Committee for Good Government last week, at the group’s 39th Annual Good Government breakfast in East Brunswick.
Riley was chosen for her leadership and support of New Jersey’s businesses and food industry, according to an announcement from the organization.
“The New Jersey Food Council is a strong advocate for New Jersey’s food industry,” Riley stated. “I appreciate the positive work this organization does to aid New Jersey businesses and I am honored to be recognized for my efforts in the state Legislature to improve our state’s business environment. An improved business environment helps spur job creation and is good for consumers, so this is truly a win for everyone.”
Riley was chosen to receive the award for her legislative efforts and sponsorship of the fuel and food promotion law. The law allows consumers to accrue reward points on their debit cards and shopper loyalty cards, which can be turned into discounts on gasoline purchases.
“This law is especially important to consumers as they look to find relief at the gas pump,” added Riley. “Not only does this initiative help fuel and food businesses, but it will benefit consumers and motorist who can now earn rewards from supermarkets and restaurants and redeem for gasoline.”
The New Jersey Food Council is New Jersey’s food industry trade association with more than 300 members representing over 1,200 retail food stores, wholesalers, and manufacturing and service companies.
